In Austria, it was already announced that the portal will no longer accept e-invoices in ebInterface 4.0, 4.1, and 4.2 effective January 1, 2022. However, companies can continue using older versions until December 31, 2021, to have enough time to migrate to one of the newer versions. The easiest way is to use version 4.3, which is supported by ebInterface like version 6.0, so it is recommended to upgrade to version 6.0.

The requirement for electronic invoicing has been in place in Austria since January 1, 2014. Since then, Austrian suppliers have been required to issue invoices electronically for all B2G transactions, and federal authorities only accept electronic invoices submitted through a company service portal (USP).

Generally, two formats are allowed for issuing electronic invoices:

national XML invoice standard for Austria

international common standard and uses a subset of the UBL 2.0 specification

XML and UBL are also used as standards for electronic invoicing in many countries, facilitating the global exchange of electronic invoices.
